Death toll from floods and landslides crosses 200, dozens missing
Kathmandu. The death toll due to floods and landslides in Nepal has crossed 200. More than four dozen people are still missing. The work of removing the bodies trapped in the landslide is going on. As the flood water recedes, the government has started arranging food and water for the people. According to the information given by the Home Ministry, the death toll due to floods and landslides has increased to 204. Home Ministry spokesperson Rishiram Tiwari said that according to the figures received from across the country till 11 am on Monday, bodies of 204 people have been recovered so far. The spokesperson of the ministry said that so far four dozen people have been reported missing.
In the figures received by the Disaster Management Department of the Home Ministry from across the country, 49 people have been reported missing so far. Spokesperson Tiwari said that at present about 200 injured people are being treated in hospitals. About four thousand people trapped in floods and landslides have been rescued. The spokesperson said that the priority of the government is to arrange temporary housing for the homeless people. He said that the cabinet meeting to be held today as soon as Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli reaches Nepal will decide on giving the first installment to the affected people for building temporary housing. Apart from this, the priority of the government is also the operation of the highway. Since Ghatasthapana is starting after three days and about 10 lakh people go to their homes by road from Kathmandu. At this time all the highways going out of Kathmandu are closed. The priority of the government is to operate them. So that people can go to their villages and other cities on the occasion of Dussehra.
